Essential Items Every Sports Mom Should Keep in Her Car

It’s back to school and back to sports. For those of us with multiple littles playing a variety of sports, that means our car is going to double as a locker room, snack bar, homework station and nurses office. Not to mention all the things needed to keep younger siblings occupied when brother’s game goes into double OT. “Mom, when are we going home?????” To stay prepared and stress-free, here’s a list of must-have items you should always keep in your car. Check out our reel for ideas on how to keep these items organized in the car so you can find what you need in a snap.

1. Snacks and Water

Kids are always hungry, especially after a long practice or game. Stock your car with non-perishable snacks that won’t melt in the Florida heat. Don’t forget water bottles to keep everyone hydrated.

2. Entertainment for Siblings

We love that IDEA that littles want to watch big sister compete but they do not. Bring along books, toys, or travel games to keep them occupied during practices and games. This helps prevent boredom and allows you to focus on supporting the athlete in action and catching up with the other moms too!

3. Extra Clothing

Keep a stash of extra clothes, including socks, underwear, and sweatshirts. You never know when your child might need a quick change after a muddy game or unexpected weather change.

4. Mom Kit

You are going to want a few essentials including sunglasses, lip gloss, dental picks, tissues, hand sani and a nail file. Keep these in the center console so you have them anytime you need.

5. Portable Phone Charger

With all the time spent on the go, your phone (or their tablet) is likely to run out of battery. A portable charger ensures you can stay connected and they stay entertained or can do their homework.

6. Sunscreen and Bug Spray

Outdoor games mean long hours in the sun and, sometimes, pesky insects. Keep sunscreen and bug spray in your car to protect your kids and yourself from sunburns and bug bites.

7. Blankets, Towels & Folding Chairs

Blankets are perfect for chilly mornings on the sidelines, while towels are essential for drying off after a rainy game or wiping down sweaty kids. They also come in handy for impromptu picnics or sitting on the ground for the kiddos – you are going to want a chair or bleacher seat.

8. Trashcan, Wipes and Disposable Bags

The more time spent in the car, the more mess collects. Keep a trash can and wipes in the car and never feel like you are driving in a garbage truck. Keep disposable bags in hand for wet clothes and upset tummies.

9. Homework Kit

A busy schedule may mean that your student athlete may need to do their homework on the run. Keep a few essential supplies like paper, pencils and pens so you don’t find yourself doing homework at bedtime when you and your kiddo are spent.

10. First-Aid Kit

Scrapes, bruises, and minor injuries are common in sports. A well-stocked first-aid kit with band-aids, antiseptic wipes, and ice packs will help you handle minor mishaps on the go.

Nothing spoils the joy and excitement of watching your kids learn resilience and teamwork in sport more than whiny siblings, stressed students and hungry families. Stock these essentials and everyone wins!
